The Australian Reptile Park has launched an exciting promotion this week for the month of May – Adopt an Animal and go in the draw to either win $5,000 or donate the prize money to their favourite conservation organisation. The Australian Reptile Park is inviting all animal lovers to get involved and adopt an animal to stay connected with nature whilst in lockdown.
People are able to adopt some of the star animals of the Australian Reptile Park, many of whom have captured hearts not only in Australia, but worldwide through the Park’s popular social media videos. Animals like Elsa the koala, Hope the wombat, Elvis the crocodile and Hugo the giant tortoise have amassed millions of video views online and are able to be symbolically adopted by their adoring fans.
The Central Coast wildlife sanctuary offers four levels of adoptions, and depending on the level purchased, that affects the amount of tickets that goes into the draw. In addition to the entries into the draw, adoptees also receive a beautiful gift pack that connects them to their animal which includes include photograph of their animal, certificate of appreciation, fact sheet on the species, curriculum-based educational activity packs and tickets to the Australian Reptile Park to come and see their animal in person (to be used upon reopening).
Since closing its door to visitors in late-March, the Australian Reptile Park has made the leap into cyber world through virtual tours, posting online educational videos and live streaming each day to help keep those at connected with nature whilst they are self-isolating. The virtual experiences have seen massive success with the videos and livestreams receiving a viewership of over two million people and the Australian Reptile Park’s social media platforms growing by over 100,000 followers in the last month alone. The Animal Adoption program is seen as the next step for the organisation, which is already connection people with wildlife online.
The Australian Reptile Park is a native wildlife facility that is founded on education and connection of people with nature. In addition to the virtual experiences launched during the current health crisis, the Park continues its lifesaving work through the production of antivenom for Australian terrestrial snakes and funnel web spiders which saves 300 lives a year, and over 20,000 lives since the 1950’s. The Australian Reptile Park also founded Aussie Ark, New South Wales largest private conservation organisation working with thousands of native species and habitats.
