It was a wonderfully warm spring day to visit The Langham, Sydney and join Paddington for Afternoon Tea. Situated on Kent Street in Millers Point, the location and views were stunning to see as the sun was setting. The foyer featured a grand piano with a secret dining room tucked away behind glass doors that had been transformed into Paddington’s tearoom.
Soft pinks, touches of gold and rose Fine China decorated the room with a visit from the bear himself in his suitcase wearing the iconic label, “Please Look After This Bear. Thank You.” The two long dining room tables seated around 15 people comfortably to meet a new friend, but also had an option of separate seating for smaller groups wanting a more intimate experience.
The attention to detail was second to none with fresh flowers being one of the centrepieces that complimented the crystal glassware with blue, red and white confetti matching the mini flags celebrating all things British.
The homemade marmalade jam was prevalent from the food to the citrus drinks (mocktails available) and the sweet scent filled the room, tantalising our tastebuds. Of course, Paddington’s favourite marmalade sandwich was the main feature of the menu and was both visually delightful and delicious to eat. The fragrant tea choices of English Breakfast, Green and Earl Grey helped balance the flavours of each sweet treat.
Compliments must go to the Chefs, Stephen and Felicity for giving us a quick but detailed guide on the dessert menu, carefully crafted and chosen from over 60 recipes with a brief peek into the history of the hotel and its cultural significance.
Gemma and her team delivered a beautiful experience that was enjoyed by every guest. It was especially endearing to see young children have fun and explore their surroundings which brought back wonderful memories of teatime with my family when I was a child.
An opulent and memorable Afternoon Tea experience for all to share with Paddington Bear.
The event is here for a limited time only from the 23 September - 16th November.
