Hideout - Review

Popups are A Thing, and the Entertainment Quarter has gone the distance this time round. We’re talking shipwrecked in the middle of nowhere distance, with the launch of its summer bar Hideout: an island bar in the middle of the city.

Playground by day for the kids, and sunset margaritas and a live DJ by night, it’s decked out like an island getaway with sand, palm trees and a shipwrecked dingy. The yellow and aqua blue colours fuse well making it look kitschy and inviting.

The summery vibes of the DJ, and the island set fuse perfectly well for a bar where you just want to hang with friends, wait for the big time show or movie to start next door, or even plan a function.

The cocktail menu is refreshing and in this Sydney moody, monsoonal heat, hydrating,  with its coconut, Caribbean rum and mint flavours. My favourites: the Wiki Wiki Mojito and the Frozen Pina Colada.

The menu must-tries include the Island Catch Roll: sweet lobster and shrimp with juicy pineapple chunks, creamy mayo and a tangy coconut Hawaiian slaw, all tucked into the much moaned about brioche (seriously, the soft bun brioche was a highlight).

We also devoured the Kalani Crudo: a kingfish ceviche with mango and a hint of chilli, crispy potato sunset scallops, and tropical tacos.

Here for a good time not a long time, grab your apricot sunnies, aqua blue bucket hat, a Wiki Wiki Mojito…and Aloha Sydney!
