THE DRY by Circa Cairns

Information

Far North Queensland’s dry season brings an anticipation into the Country that pulsates through its people.

Circa Cairns returns to place with THE DRY, the second work in a series of extraordinary encounters between the body and Country.

Inspired by this sun soaked landscape, THE DRY is a raw cry of joy and mischief from the vibrant people who call this parched land home.

Blending elite skill, Cultural knowledge and a touch of sass, the Circa Cairns ensemble draw on elements of the dry season to breathe life back into circus.

Established in 2022 and led by proud Wakka Wakka man Harley Mann, Circa Cairns tells urgent First Nations stories that are created with the community on Country.

????? “If this First Nations-led contemporary circus ensemble can maintain the raw physicality displayed in this piece, it will be walking a sure path to success.”
– Limelight

???? “Circa Cairns does more than spark a newly devised work – From Old Things is a flare bursting with heat. ”
– Arts Hub

Circa Cairns is based in Gimuy (Cairns) on the lands of the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji people.

Circa Cairns acknowledges that art has been practiced here over many millennia, and that it remains a fundamental way of life for the traditional Caretakers and Custodians of the lands on which we work, create and perform today. We acknowledge that we are here as visitors, and accept the responsibility to respect and care for these lands and tread lightly.
