Pyrmont Festival of Wine, Food & Art

With classical music, wines from Huntington Estate and tasting plates from The Star’s dining establishments, Pyrmont Festival has been officially launched by Sydney’s Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

Winemakers and produce suppliers gathered at the casino this week to mark the first of many food and wine events that will take place at Pirramar Park and surrounds during the 10-day festival from May 13 to 22.

Pyrmont Festival is an exciting collaboration between this inner city suburb and North Western Sydney’s Mudgee Region.

It aims to give Sydneysiders a taste of the great produce available from wineries and food suppliers three and a half hours north-west of Sydney and to showcase art and music from the area.

It also shines a spotlight on Pyrmont’s best food and wine outlets.

The festival provides opportunities to meet the winemakers, participate in tastings, sample regional foods, explore sculpture making and enjoy live music.

The highlight will be a two-day outdoor event at Pirrama Park on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May.

The family event will feature around 100 stalls, a mini produce market, music, rides and children’s entertainment.

In launching the event that was born in 2011, the Lord Mayor promised “fabulous food and fabulous wine” around Sydney’s beautiful harbour. She also notably pledged continued financial support from City of Sydney for a further three years.

President of Pyrmont’s Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence Gibbons, said the festival was “not just a two-day event in the park, but an opportunity to discover Pyrmont”, which had retained its character despite the homogenisation of many of our suburbs.

“Pyrmont Festival is a celebration of a very special place in Sydney,” he said, “and we city slickers have a lot to learn from our country cousins.”

The launch was also attended by Ted Cox, President of the Mudgee Wine Grape Growers Association, and principle sponsors The Star and IGA.
