Birkenhead Point and Harbourside to Launch Bespoke Ferry Service

Sydney shopping centres, Birkenhead Point Outlet Centre and Harbourside, have today announced a new ferry service, the Hello Sydney! Shopper Hopper, as part of the Hello Sydney! tourist program. The ferry, will offer international and domestic travellers a multi-dimensional shopping, dining and tourism experience, with a daily service between Circular Quay, Harbourside Shopping Centre and Birkenhead Point Outlet Centre.

Hello Sydney!, launched by Birkenhead Point, Harbourside and iVenture Card in December 2015, was the first of its kind in the Sydney market – offering big savings and exclusive discounts on shopping, dining and entertainment for visitors to the city. Now, the Hello Sydney! Shopper Hopper will add to the existing program by providing a regular water service to the two Centres, complete with a sightseeing tour of Sydney’s most iconic attractions including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Luna Park, Cockatoo Island and the stunning City skyline.

The commencement of the Hello Sydney! Shopper Hopper will also provide a new transportation opportunity for local commuters of Drummoyne. Since the previous ferry to Birkenhead Point was decommissioned in 2010 due to the no wash zone at Iron Cove, commuters have been unable to travel by ferry into the city. The new route, direct to Circular Quay, will cut the journey time down from approximately 45 minutes by road to just 22 minutes across the harbour.

Shopper Hopper partner, Fantasea Cruises, will provide and operate the ferry. As part of the Riverside Marine Group, the leading Australian cruise operator brings over 30 years tourism experience to the new venture and currently operates Sydney’s largest water taxi fleet in the harbour alongside their range of sightseeing cruises.

Mirvac Retail Portfolio Manager Michelle Higgins commented, “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Hello Sydney! Shopper Hopper. By introducing this additional dimension to Hello Sydney! we can now offer an all-encompassing tourism experience, from sightseeing and entertainment to shopping and dining. Birkenhead Point and Harbourside are the only two shopping Centres in Sydney that can be accessed by water and are surrounded by many neighbouring communities –  the Shopper Hopper will not only cater to tourists, but will also provide a convenient and much-needed service to our local commuters.”

Tickets for the Hello Sydney! Shopper Hopper will be priced at $10 per leg, with a discounted 10-pass option for commuters travelling the route on a more regular basis. Service will commence every morning at 8.00am with 16 journeys throughout the day and a last service at 5.40pm from Circular Quay to Birkenhead Point.
