College Football powerhouse, Stanford University, will take on Rice University as Sydney once again plays host to the opening match of the NCAA College Football Championship for the second consecutive year.
The announcement of the game is a fantastic result for Australian sport fans and the city of Sydney, reflecting the success of the inaugural College Football Sydney Cup which saw University of California, Berkley defeat University of Hawaii in front of close to 62,000 fans.
The 2017 College Football Sydney Cup will seek to further showcase the match day passion and entertainment seen every weekend in the US – right in the heart of Australia’s biggest city. Fans will be treated with a world class sporting experience complete with cheerleaders, mascots, marching bands and American themed food options.
The Stanford Cardinal football program has a decorated history with 15 conference and two NCAA national titles in their record books. They also boast 35 current NFL players as being products of their football program including Seattle Seahawks livewire and Super Bowl Champion, Richard Sherman along with Indianapolis Colts Quarterback, Andrew Luck.
The Rice University Owls, based out of Houston, Texas, also compete at the NCAA Division One level, and can also lay claim to producing numerous current and former NFL players.
