Sullivan & Gilbert

Information

NUCMS presents a concert of music by Sir Arthur Sullivan, with some W. S. Gilbert thrown in as well. The show is in two parts. The first half will be Sullivan’s one-act musical folly The Zoo - a rarely performed piece from early in Sullivan’s career that was only rediscovered in the 1960s. Written at the same time as Trial by Jury, it is a crazy comedy featuring a lovelorn apothecary, his flighty fiancé, her wickedly miserable father, a disguised Duke, and the object of his desire – the zoo’s café manager.

The second half is a concert of Gilbert & Sullivan selections, featuring favourites and some rarely performed items, interspersed with some of Sullivan’s other vocal music, including the last music that Sullivan wrote for the Savoy Theatre stage.
